The Arizona Diamondbacks have called up right-hander Max Scherzer.
True Waiver Sharks hear news like this, and wide shark teeth grins form from gill to gill! Especially ones who are involved in long term Keeper Leagues~!
“Mad Max” was off to an incredible start for the Sidewinders. He currently posted an ERA of 1.17 and a 38/3 K/BB ratio while pitching 23 innings for Tucson.
In most likelihood, Sherzer will pitch in the bullpen to begin his career, but it may not take very long for him to enter the rotation. However it should be noted that the D-backs suffer from their own case of “Joba-itis” regarding Scherzer. They need help NOW in the bullpen, and there can be a case said that Scherzer’s electric stuff would make for an amazing closer. We’ll have to just wait and see how this all pans out. But regardless what role he plays – this kid has some nasty stuff!
And it’s been witnessed by scouts that the 98 MPH flamethrower is improving his secondary pitches as well.
Single season mixed leaguers might want to stash him away if possible, based on his great potential – and if Scherzer has not been added to your league yet - a high waiver priority should strongly be considered.

As the end of the first full Fantasy Baseball month of 2008 looms we need to decide on who will be our first Megalodon of the Month.
Incidentally, we will enter ALL current Megalodon tier members into an archive, and begin the Month of May with a clean slate.
Anyhow, the criteria to win is simple:
The Megalodon of the Month will be awarded to ONE Fantasy baseball player WaiverSharks.com recommended in ANY one of the lesser Shark Tiers - from Blue Sharks up to Great White Sharks within our exclusive player ranker THE CAGE.
So, Waiver Sharks…Who indeed had the best FANTASY month?
Who, from the following list, best exemplified a fantastic waiver wire pick-up - and awarded their Fantasy Managers with stellar stats that may even hint at a Break Out season?
Who do YOU believe best deserves April’s award?
SP Johnny Cueto, CIN
SP Clay Buchholz, BOS
SP Shawn Marcum, TOR
RP Joba Chambelain, NYY
C Geovanny Soto, CHC
1B James Loney, LAD
2B Aaron Hill, TOR
3B Evan Longoria, TB
SS Yunel Escobar, ATL
OF Jacoby Ellsbury, BOS
OF Kosuke Fukudome, CHC
The Diamondbacks are on fire and WaiverSharks has developed a serious “Man Crush” on Conor Jackson for this season and here’s why:
In addition to the steadily improving righty hitting the cover off the ball to start 2008 - he’s doing so while batting clean up for the rising machine that is the Arizona Diamondbacks!
The former Yakima Bear displays a keen eye at the plate, and although he isn’t likely to maintain an OBP of .470 - opposing outfielders should be chasing down plenty of “Action Jackson’s” extra base hits in the friendly confines of the D-backs Chase field.
Still only 25 he appears positioned for a potential breakout year with 100 RBI’s not out of the question batting in the 4 spot for the talented baby snakes.
A quick personal note: His father is an actor best known for his portrayal of Adm. Albert Jethro 'A.J.' Chegwidden on the television Emmy award winning series Jag.
And yes ladies – “Co-jack” is single!
Does WaiverSharks have a tall guy fetish? Umm. No.
But after last week, adding 6’ 11” Washington Nationals reliever Jon Rauch to The Cage, we follow it up with another mountain of a man - Jeff Niemann.
At 6’ 9” he certainly has that Randy Johnson look going, but thankfully he has only a low 90’s fastball, not a mid 90’s mullet (anymore).
He also no longer sports the Dan Haren beard he had last spring either – a good call. On off days, hanging out in the Tampa Bay area looking like Cat Stevens or Yusuf Islam, or whatever the heck he goes by these days would have been itchier than Dick Cheney’s trigger finger.
Niemann’s next start is against the hot hitting Chicago White Sox, and his stay may not be long term at this point of season, as both Matt Garza and Scott Kazmir are due back towards the end of April which could force him back to the minors.
However if Andy Sonnanstine, the Rays current third starter, continues to be better at playing ping pong than throwing a baseball, Big Jeff just might be playing alongside Evan Longoria awhile longer.
Is Andy Sonnanstine a better ping pong player than a pitcher?
Each week WaiverSharks.com suggests a new Player of the Week in the section called Tips & Clips.
This weeks choice was made real easy when "Evan Almighty" joined the Rays!
Evan Longoria being called up to the big leagues has fantasy baseball managers everywhere running to their respective waiver wires to check and make sure an impatient owner didn't cut him loose when he started the 2008 season with Tampa's minor league affiliate; the Durham Bulls.
But, don't dismay if you missed out on the star third base prospect!
WaiverSharks will often suggest Players who may be flying much more under the radar than Evan Longoria. This weeks obvious choice shouldn't be considered the norm!
We would much rather dig into the Deeper Sleepers, so more of our sites viewers have a chance to pick up the players we are excited about! To check out our past and present recommendations simply click on "Bones" Tips & Clips on the left hand side of our site.
Today we’re going deep for our Dorsal of the Day.
Oakland Athletics starter Dana Eveland, who some have compared to a young David “Boomer” Wells came to the A’s via the Dan Haren trade this past off season.
The hefty lefty ranked highly in the Mexican Pacific League while taking part in Winter ball and saw his stock increase even higher after an amazing spring (3-0/17 Ks/1.29 ERA/1.14 WHIP/21.0 IP)

Is Oakland A’s Dana Eveland a young version of David Wells?
Mixed Leaguers should at this point be somewhat intrigued by the big guys shaggy brown goatee, and even more so by his two straight quality starts to begin the year.
Oakland GM extraordinaire, Billy Beane obviously saw something in Eveland worth going after, if you’re a bonafied WaiverShark you’ll see it too.
Atlanta Braves fans may be seeing Mark Kotsay man center field a little bit longer…

WaiverSharks.com has removed Mississippi Braves outfielder Jordan Shafer from our Baby Sharks Top Prospects list due to his recent 50 game suspension that was handed down recently by the Major League Baseball commissioner’s office for his alleged use of human growth hormone (HGH) in direct violation of the minor league’s drug program.
For other prospects, check out our Baby Sharks Section.
The first week of Major League Baseball, as well as Fantasy Baseball, is in the books!
And so the folks at WaiverSharks.com have just completed a bigger than Big League Chew
update to your #1 Fantasy Sports Waiver Resource: THE CAGE!
