You're absolutely correct, Doumit and Soto are definitely NOT Sleepers going into 2009, but that's not what we implied here. They are most certainly, as you stated "Top Dogs in the Yard" indeed!

As we said - "ON WHO MIGHT" as in this context:

"who might be this years Ryan Doumit, or even better - Geovanny Soto"

Was to convey the idea that when players have great breakout seasons - we reference them the following year when we hope to discover NEW sleeper names...who we hope follow in the lofty footsteps of their successful predecessors...

As we suggested here:

When it comes to pitchers – the phrase “Next Edinson Volquez” will be bounced around more than “Career Opportunities” outtakes of Jennifer Connelly on a Target store riding horse.

Hope this helps clarify things a bit - and here's hoping that Mr. Rasmus is used in sentences like..."He might be this year's Colby Rasmus" come the 2010 season - cause that will have meant he did pretty darn good in '09 right?

Comprende essay?!

Ryan Doumit and Geovanny Soto are both not sleepers any more. They're top-dogs in the yard. On the other hand, Mike Napoli and Max Ramirez may be two guys to watch in 2009 as I analyze over at the Life of Brian.
