Part 2

6) Roofman – Dayton Dragons

Roofman Bobblehead

Based on the caped “Superhero” who can occasionally be seen tossing down plush versions of baseballs with his likeness on them from the roof top of Fifth-Third Field. What a cheeky and fantastic Minor League Baseball concept! God Bless America !

7) Larry Craig Bobble Feet Doll – St. Paul Saints

Larry Craig Bobblefeet Doll

We have discussed last season’s Bobblefoot giveaway or Bobble Feet we should say at length in a post last summer. Take a look at what WaiverSharks exclusive Screwter’s Hardline had to say in our June 2008 archives.
And read about what Minnesota’s always fun ball club – the Saint Paul Saints, have in store for 2009 here.

8) Tom Gorzelanny - Pittsburgh Pirates

Tom Gorzelanny Bobblehead

This appears to be a rather normal SGA Bobblehead of Pittsburgh Pirates starter Tom Gorzelanny – but, if you look closely at his glove hand – he is rather blatantly shooting the finger! Perhaps this was the Pirates marketing group’s bobblehead “Ode to the Billy Ripken F@#K Face” baseball card? Or maybe just a way to let Pirates fans know they didn’t appreciate the incessant – but well deserved cat calls this past year.

9) Rally Rabbi – San Francisco Giants

Rally Rabbi Bobblehead

The Giants appear to have a knack for the oddball bobbles!

3,000 were given away at San Francisco Giants AT&T Park on July 8 - 2007 in celebration of Jewish Heritage night. This unique bobblehead features the likeness of the Rally Rabbi (He does exist!) holding a rally pipe – and donning a #18 Jersey .
Incidentally, for those who think these bizarre bobbles are worthless – think again! The least expensive Rally Rabbi I could find on eBay was currently selling for $47.95!

10) Frank the Hot Dog Mascot - Everett Aqua Sox

Frank the Hot Dog Mascot

Sometimes a picture says it all doesn’t it? Could someone pass the mustard?

This bizarre looking bobblehead was given out to the first 1000 children 14 and under on June 24th, 2008. Bobbleheads handed out to JUST kids tend to usually command a little more collectors appeal. A good example would be the 2008 New York Mets Johan Santana bobblehead - which, like Frank here was only given out to kids 14 and under.

11) Carlos Lee  SGA/Riding Horse – Houston Astros
(Sorry- but a list this fun needed to go up to eleven.)

Carlos Lee Bobblehead

You put almost anyone on a horse and it makes for an odd bobblehead – let alone a baseball player! If I bought one of these odd bobbles, it would remain my second favorite human/horse combo.

Being I was “coming of age” when Career Opportunities hit the screen back in the 1980’s – Jennifer Connelly’s now infamous Target store bareback ride remains emblazoned in my mind forever.

Part One

Since beginning to more seriously pursue collector’s baseball bobble heads this past year – WaiverSharks.com editor Scott Woodall has come across some pretty bizarre nodders!

Here is a TOP 10 of the strangest wacky wobblers he came across.

All of these were used as promotional stadium giveaways (SGA) during the past few seasons. There were countless others – but we think you’ll agree these are some of the truly offbeat bobblehead giveaway gems in recent memory.

1) Ogie Ogilthorpe - Thunder Bay Border Cats

Receiving a Hockey Player bobblehead at a baseball game is pretty strange in itself – let alone one from the greatest hockey film of all-time - SLAPSHOT! We would love to get our hands on a Syracuse Bulldogs Bill Goldie Goldthorpe – (Better known as “Ogie Ogilthorpe”) bobblehead! This was a stadium giveaway (SGA) at a home game for the Thunder Bay Border Cats of the Northwoods Baseball league during the 2007 season.
We were hesitant to list it here on Bobblehead Daze, but because it is so darn cool - we had no choice! Bare in mind - this is an extremely rare Bobblehead! We know a lot of people who read this article may end up wanting one – and many will be disappointed to find out just how hard it is to locate the red afro-haired tough guy.

Note: We just discovered that the real Goldie Goldthorpe has his own website where he sells these bobbleheads.  You can check it out here

2) Derrick Turnbow – Milwaukee Brewers

Derrick Turnbow Bobblehead

You may want to wash this one with Pert plus conditioner! Known for wearing his hair rather long - this weird 2006 Milwaukee Brewers SGA comes with synthetic dolls hair! Gives him a more natural look – don’t you think?

NOTE: NBA Basketball player Kyle Korver has a similar kind of “real hair” look going on with this 2006 Philadelphia 76ers bobblehead.

But this one of Korver might be a tad creepier - don’t you think?

3) Crazy Hot Dog Vendor - Reading Phillies

Crazy Hotdog Vendor Bobblehead

This very limited edition Stadium Giveaway (SGA) bobblehead given out on July 9th, 2008! And no, you’re not seeing things – he is indeed riding an Ostrich! We loved his campaign when fans had to decide if they wanted to immortalize him in polyresin – it appeared to have worked! One more solid argument that Minor League Baseball promotions are sometimes completely insane – yet entirely awesome!

4) Crazy Crab Mascot – San Francisco Giants

Crazy Crab Mascot Bobblehead

This was one of the wackiest bobbleheads of 2008, and a WaiverSharks favorite! Crazy Crab actually stands out like a sore ass in comparison to the rest of our predominant baseball player SGA’s – because it is so wide – and such a bright orange color.

The pictured Crazy Crab above is the actual eBay photo taken of the one we purchased from eBay.

(It’s always a nice bonus when the bobblehead seller includes the game day ticket – it eliminates ANY concern over the item's authenticity.)

The fact that we were able to land the more rare version (ONLY 2000 of the slanted cap crustaceans were made), complete with rosin bags and bottles, springs on the claws – and having the purposely misspelled LIMTED EDITION on the back of the base makes this sexy beast that much more interesting!

For more information on the history of the San Francisco Giants infamous “Anti- Mascot” go to Rehab the Crab.

5) Roy Oswalt – Riding a Bulldozer – Houston Astros

Roy Oswalt Bulldozer Bobblehead

This bobblehead also seems to garner fairly high bidding on eBay. But we don’t have a clue what the connection is – does Roy Oswalt own his very own construction company or something?

If anyone can explain to us the Astros reasoning for sitting their ace starting pitcher on a bulldozer, we would love to hear from you!
