I try to occasionally dab bits and pieces of my life into WaiverSharks.com, without straying too often from our focus which is Fantasy Baseball prospects, and Deep Sleepers as well as the growing hobby of SGA Bobblehead collecting. So, recently when my dad proudly offered me up a Dare Devil Wacky Wobbler he’d come across - to add to my collection – I was touched.

Scott and Dad As I gazed over towards mildly dusty library shelves filled with an ever growing population of predominantly baseball related SGA Bobble heads - I began to realize perhaps their TRUE value.“Many of them represent fond memories”Sure – I suppose that may sound ridiculous to some, but others, I hope will understand what I mean.Mementos of road trips past, and glory stories of how I came to own some of these peculiar little bobbing men make up small fragments of my life – many of which I can one day sit back in a rocking chair on my porch and grin widely over.Months back - I mentioned to my spry sixty year old father that since he is constantly scouring yard sales, and bargain shops – to keep an eye open for any “Bobbleheads” – at the time – I’m not sure he even knew what they were – but the avid antique and collectable guy he has been all his life was notably excited that he could help add to my silly nodder trinkets. He wasn’t having too much luck – but then one day he finally discovered a Dare Devil Head Knocker for a blowout bargain at a church sale – it wasn’t quite the discovery of the Holy Grail - but I could tell he was pretty smitten over finding it – as was I for the conversational bond the bobble head doll had lent a hand in creating.

Daredevil Bobblehead

Who knew, that a poly resin figure based on a Superhero, played in a critically luke warm Hollywood action flick with Ben Affleck could garner such warm feelings?

Obviously, one will assume - my Josh Hamilton Tampa Bay Rays Bobble or even my newly acquired – and decidedly more rare San Francisco Giants Crazy Crab variant will surpass our ironically “Blind Marvel Hero” in value over the years.

But, for many years to come, I will always cherish my burgundy leather clad Marvel figure - perhaps even greater then I do the bobble heads in my collection that might have more collectable appeal - and may hold a higher monetary value.

Not so much because of what it’s worth – but because of the sentimental nature in which I acquired it. So – thanks again, Dad.

As we approach what could be a leaner gift giving Holiday season for many – please keep this story in the back of your collective minds. Don’t feel badly if you can’t afford the most expensive items in stores this year – that’s not what the Holidays are all about.

And let’s not forget what our parents taught us a long, long time ago.

“It’s the thought that counts.”
