“Tell me about the loons, Norman!”
Dow Diamond, in partnership with MidMichigan Health, is turning back the clock in honor of the 1984 World Series winning Detroit Tigers. The Great Lakes Loons will be offering a three game bobblehead series that will feature some of the 1984 Tigers seasons’ most popular players.
Wow…it seems like only yesterday that the “Bless you Boys” were off to the races with their 35-5 start on route to the last World Series Detroit celebrated in the franchise's century plus existence.
Growing up just across the border from Detroit , in LaSalle Ontario, which is just a stone's throw from Windsor Ontario - I was quite the Tigers fanatic! I used to listen to Ernie Harwell for all 162 games on a small transistor radio that looked just like this:
(Except mine had Chicago Blackhawks stickers…which was kind of odd considering I grew up a diehard Maple Leafs fan? Mom & Dad must have found them on sale at the local Woolco!)
Needless to say – I can’t wait to head to Midland Michigan to get my hands on my boyhood baseball idol. A Detroit Tigers version of a Kirk Gibson bobblehead will be able to keep the 2001 Los Angeles Dodgers variant I have company!
