Hidden amongst the Pittsburgh Pirates twenty (20) game package schedule, and now in the regular 2009 Pirates promotional schedule are these three Bobblehead doll promo days:
Saturday, April 18th – Ryan Doumit Bobblehead Day VS Atlanta Braves (All Fans)
Saturday, May 16th - Nate McLouth 2008 All-Star Bobblehead Day VS Colorado Rockies (All Fans)
Friday, September 25th - TBA Fans Vote Bobblehead Day VS Los Angeles Dodgers (All Fans)
The Ryan Doumit Bobblehead was originally slated to be the Nate McLouth SGA game - but was changed. The game time remains @ 12:35 – so fans better save the Primanti’s sandwich until the game starts, and head to PNC early if they want one of these.
AND, HEY PIRATES FANS!
Who do you like for an early favorite for the Fan vote?
Note: We suggested the following on December 3rd 2008 - and our wishes came true!
Bobblehead Daze would love to see a Ryan Doumit solo version. Number # 41 was part of a three headed wacky wobbler, along with Zach Duke and Chris Duffy back in 2006. We think it would also be cool if they were to offer 2000 or so as a left-handed variant since the talented Doumit is a switch-hitter.
Note: The power of Bobblehead Daze~! A Ryan Doumit Bobblehead SGA was added a little over a month after this post was originally made - kudos to the Pirates organization's marketing group for agreeing with our plea.
This was another idea: But, we'll see if it rings true...we have our doubts.
Or maybe offer a select number of them in the retro yellow throwback uniform “Pops” made famous? Either idea would help boost the Pirates Bobble head giveaway’s rarity appeal - something they’ve lacked in recent years.

Our other choice would be an Andrew McCutchen doll – but he’s an early “Sleeper Bobble” since there is still no guarantee this top Pirates prospect will even make the team to start the 2009 season – but we know Bucco’s fans will be lobbying for this youngsters arrival! Whomever fans decide on – we just hope it’s designed without flipping the bird like Tom Gorzelanny’s was in 2008!
By the way - As much as we love Bobbleheads - we are gald to see that the Pirates appear to have scaled back the number of Bobble giveaways (SGA) this year.
PNC Park held NINE! (9) separate Bobblehead nights during the 2008 season.
We read one fan joke: “It got to a point where Pirate’s fans in attendance last season were paying $15 for a bobblehead - that just happened to come with a live baseball game.” Bobblehead Daze feels anything over FOUR Bobblehead stadium giveaways in any one season is just plain overkill.
Too many SGA’s creates a danger of ruining a good thing. Over saturating baseball promotional days with too many substandard players likenesses on bobbleheads will conceivably lessen the potential collector’s value – and we feel ultimately could kill the hobby. So let’s hope “the BUCS stop here” – and do not add any further Bobblehead days onto their 2009 promo calendar.
Here is WaiverSharks/Bobblehead Daze blogger, Scott Woodall back in ‘06 visiting his favorite Major League Ball Park - proudly hoisting a Zach Duke Bobblehead like it was Lord Stanley’s Cup!
