“Wake” up Red Sox fans…it’s that time again. Clearly it has been a while since I’ve posted something on here, so I figured I’d start with a nice re-cap of what I’ve noticed go right, and evidently wrong (by the looks of our record).
Well, I must say it was nice to welcome in the 2009 season with a victory over last year’s defending AL Champs, however, it has been all down hill from there. After a clearly disappointing start to the 2009 campaign, the Red Sox will look to right the ship, and put their 3-6 start behind them. Tim Wakefield did just that last night, pitching 7 no-hit innings, before giving up a Kurt Suzuki single in the 8th. All we needed was a “Wake” up call, and Timmer delivered. Nicely done, Timmy!
One of the brightest spots has to be that of Kevin Youkilis. Does this guy ever stop? He is hitting a monsterous .472, and 7 of his first 9 games have been multi-hit ones. Great job Youk…keep on swinging!
On the flip side, the biggest problem we are seeing so far, is in our typically tight bullpen. Pap’s, Saito, and Okajima have produced less than desirable results (In 9.2 innings, are big hurlers came out with a whopping 5.58 ERA, a 1.45 WHIP, a moderate 11 K’s and 2 saves…Yuck!) in the first nine games. Not to mention the rest of the crew. Maybe all they needed was a little “Wake” up call from one of their wiley vets. Thanks Timmy!
Lastly, the season is in full force, and the Red Sox DL list is growing too fast for my liking. First it was Julio, not so sure he should even be starting, Lugo. Then it was his replacement, “The Jedi,” and now “Dice-K.” I haven’t even mentioned John Smoltz, who was already claiming his spot on the DL before he was even signed. Either way, we better start eating our Wheaties and play ball.
Here’s to hoping things turn around quickly!
Til next time, Go Sox!
