The first month is behind us and we enter May with a 14-8 record; tied with Toronto atop the AL East. The month included a nice 11 game win streak, that saw us soar to the top of the standings, as we enter May with some speed.
Highlights of the month include:
Kevin Youkilis - who is hitting the ball like it’s on a Tee-Ball stand.
Jason Bay - who leads the AL in walks with 23.
Jacoby Ellsbury - who leads the majors in steals with 10.
Tim Wakefield - who’s had a stunning start of only allowing 6 runs over 29 innings pitched, in rather dominant fashion too.
Concerns of the month include:
Josh Beckett - who has been rather ordinary thus far posting an ERA of 7.22 in 5 starts.
David Ortiz - His inability to hit the long ball, with a grand total of 0 so far, is somewhat of a concern in the Nation.
Who ever our Shortstop is - since both Lugo and Lowrie have been hit by the injury bug and been extremely un-productive when in there.
Free agent signings - Brad Penny, Takashi Saito, and John Smoltz have all been rather inconsistant, with the ladder revealing a set back in his return from an injury.
All in all, it’s been a rather successful month. Anytime your team is in first, it’s tough to complain or draw on the negatives, but there’s always room for improvment. Nevertheless, I like what I see out of the boys so far and can’t wait to get things rolling even smoother in the month of May and beyond.
Til next time, Go Sox!
