Tonight the Red sox will do battle against their arch enemy the New York Yankees. The two teams will collide in a 3-game set at Fenway park with the winner of the series claiming first place in the AL East division.
The Red Sox have faced some tough opponents this past week, but none tougher than the team they will face tonight. After defeating the division leading Tigers in 3 straight games, the Red Sox came home only to drop their next series (2 games to 1) against the AL West leading Texas Rangers.
Continuing the trend of playing division leaders, the Red Sox will face the Yankees for 3, and then head to Philadelphia to face the NL East leaders for 3 more. This crucial stretch of games will be a great test for the Red Sox, who hope to land another post season berth in October, which could potentially be against some of these teams.
On the mound tonight is Josh Beckett, who has regained some of his dominant form in recent starts. He’ll match up against his former Marlin teammate, A.J. Burnett, in what looks to be a battle of the heated arms. Tomorrow night, Tim Wakefield will take on the struggling Chien-Meng Wang and in the finale, Brad Penny will bump heads with C.C. Sabathia.
All signs point to this being a playoff-like series, with the Red Sox carrying some momentum from the previous meetings this year. The Red Sox are a perfect 5-0 against the Yankees this season, and will look to continue that trend and take over sole possession of first place. Best of luck boys!
 Til next time, Go Sox!
