Tonight the Red Sox host the first place Toronto Blue Jays in game one of a three game set. The Jays currently hold a 3.5 game lead on the Sox and are coming off a sweep of the Chicago White Sox. Boston, on the other hand, is going in the other direction. Losers of 4 of their last 6, the recent west coast road trip was not kind to them. The Sox however, will look to get back on the winning track at home this week, as these are three monster divional games.
On the mound for game one is Red Sox journeyman, Tim Wakefield. He goes up against converted reliever, Brian Tallet, in what should be a battle of two bulldog pitchers. Let’s just hope Timmy’s knuckle is on and the boys can take game one.
The next two games the Sox will send two of their struggling hurlers to the mound in Brad Penny and Jon Lester. The Jays on the other hand will send two rookies, Brett Cecil and Robert Ray, who have both been outstanding in the short major league debuts.
The pivotal pieces for the Red Sox will be getting Kevin Youkilis back in the lineup, who looks to come back to the diamond for game two. As well as, Jacoby Ellsbury setting the tone and getting on base early. He would also like to continue his hot hitting tear he’s on, where he’s hit safely in his last 13 games; 7 of which were multi-hit games.
This series will be the first this season where the two teams meet, and I sure hope our Sox can come out with three victories to put themselves in the drivers seat of the AL East.
