If you plan on venturing to Comerica Park in Detroit, Michigan this summer - and you bring yourself a MANLY sized appetite - there is really only one choice of food for you!

Clue: They’re real big and they’re spectacular!

Actually, dirty minds - we’re talking about Comerica Parks Mucho Nacho!

What the popular Detroit Tiger’s Ballpark dish may lack in originality – it more than makes up for in sheer girth!

$8.50 grants you a heaping black plastic basket of restaurant style nacho chips covered in hot melted cheese, a generous amount of ground beef, sour cream, jalapenos (If you don’t like heat - Just let them know you would prefer it “sans jalapenos”) and a decent side container of salsa.

The folks that run the Mexican stand in the Big Cat Court just across from the Tigers carrousel use to toss the salsa right in with the dish, but this year mine came on the side.

Either way - based on Ballpark food standards - it’s a pretty large platter of food that could quite possibly feed two people. So unless you’re stomach is growling like a tiger you may want to share your Mucho Nacho with a friend.

Ballpark Food of the Month

For our first suggestion we didn’t want to stray too far from the good ol’ American Ballpark Frank so we chose:

The Bratwurst! - Miller Park - Milwaukee

There are several reasons this summer to un-stick your sweaty back from the leather lazy-boy, pry your eyes from your 42” basement plasma, and head to a baseball game. But, few are more tempting to the couch caveman than the mouth watering, wafting smells of some fine parking lot dining!

Yes, indeed! Miller Park in Milwaukee is an absolute tail-gaiters haven, and although the setting of That 70’s Show may ultimately be more famous for its’ frothy brews and cheesy heads, we absolutely go hog wild over…the Sausages!

If you get down to Miller Park this season we highly recommend you treat yourself to several of these scrumptious artery cloggers!

After you’ve appropriately ‘pre-gamed’ in the mammoth sized parking lot for an hour or three you may want to pack up the hibachi into the sport-ute ( So as not to entice Ian Snell ) and head to the game so you can route for Ben Sheets, before he lands on the DL!

Once you’ve stumbled upon your game seat, we strongly suggest you kick back with a couple of bun loving Bratwurst smothered in the Brewers’ secret stadium sauce, or choose the spicier Italian sausage if, like Jenna Jameson…you like your meat hot!

Either way, you won’t be dissatisfied with your departure from the more traditional wiener dog. AND, as an added bonus, just as those 6^th inning ales start to take effect, you and the kids will relish more fun than Bernie Brewer can muster, by witnessing Klement’s sausage race!

Wolfing down a couple ballpark doggies during a baseball game when we were kids was an integral part of the entire ‘take me out to the ballgame’ experience. I can recall only looking down at the food I was inhaling in between pitches, so as not to miss a glimpse of the action.

Those steamed ballpark frankfurters, loaded with mustard went down splendidly, but as time passed, and tastes became a little more mature and demanding of  variety the traditional hotdog + bun + mustard (or ketch-up if your raised oddly) wasn’t necessarily going to cut it.

Nowadays, most organizations offer almost as many choices of ballpark cuisine as they do over-priced and often useless sports souvenirs. Like Yankees toilette paper for instance! Actually wait, this isn’t useless at all. In fact, I can think of plenty of Red Sox fans who wouldn’t mind ‘sparing a square’ amongst friends, if it meant they could finally treat the Bronx Bombers logo with the utmost disrespect they feel it deserves!

Not to worry Yanks fans, I’m sure a Bean Town TP version exists too if you wanted to get in on the rivalry wipe!
