PART 2 OF AN INVESTIGATIVE REPORT
REVIEWING THE DISASTROUS 2008 DETROIT TIGERS SEASON
The Gambler…Ah Kenny, this season has been quite a rollercoaster ride hasn’t it? I have been extremely critical at times, only to humbly accept his role for what it is worth; but ultimately, this season has been a dud.
Sporting an ERA of 5.09, and a losing record (9-11) I’m sure this isn’t the type of swan song that the big Georgian was hoping for. Who knows if this is indeed his last season, but it will be his last with the Tigers I’m certain. After battling back from injury last season, Kenny has given the Tigers his all with each and every climb atop the hill. He’s proven to be very hittable nearly all year though, proven by his .299 BAA.

Kenny’s been about as hittable as a Texas Rangers cameraman this season
While still laden with passion, it’s clear that Kenny doesn’t enjoy losing at all, so he’s still a gamer. Unfortunately, it seems as if the game has gotten the best of him now. With the Tigers placing him on waivers over the past few days, in hopes of having a contender looking for a veteran lefty to solidify the back end of their rotation, it appears that this will be the end of the road for the Gambler in ‘D-Town’.

Kenny will either be retiring or slipping into a new jersey next year, if not earlier.
The stats add up in pointing to the the same direction of the Tigers fortunes, and after fumbling their way to 4th place in the Central, getting rid of Kenny in hopes of showing him the respect for everything that he’s done in his near three years of service. In doing so, they would be giving him another shot at a ring while getting something (and I’ll honestly take ANYTHING) in return. I don’t mean that in the wrong way either, I just look at the rest of this season as an audition for everyone that wants to be here, and deserves to be here.
I’m not sure if I expected Rogers to be the guy that went out and gave you seven innings a night, or resembled the 17-8, 3.84 ERA type that he was in ’06, but I wasn’t expecting him to get roughed up more often than not as he has of late in losing five of his last six starts.

Kenny doesn’t throw as hard as he did back in the day, but he’s still a serviceable arm
So, attention all MLB teams with a questionable or shaky back end of the rotation that are involved in a playoff race. (Yes, I’m talking to you Boston, White Sox, Mets & Arizona and maybe even Philly…) Wouldn’t a crafty lefty with a ton of experience, that’s proven (mystery brown stuff or not) to be effective in a playoff run be a nice addition for that stretch drive? At least the Tigers are trying to realize that they knew when to hold; it’s unfortunate that at least as far as his future in Detroit is concerned, it’s now time to fold…
Up next, I will be discussing Nate Robertson.
